Steel Resonator Guitar
with lipstick pickup, new shallow depth, fast 14 fret neck
We’ve been getting in more prototypes from Korea for our Deep River resonator line. This is a National type resonator, with built-in lipstick pickup and a new shallower depth (2" deep instead of 3 1/4"). It features a steel body with rolled F-holes, a slim 14 fret neck with bound ebony fingerboard and excellent tuners.
There are a lot of resonators out there these days, of varying quality. Most of the ones you’ll see now, like the Epiphone, Dean or Recording King models all come from China. They are pretty good for the money, but we're aiming for higher professional quality here.
There’s a big gap between $3000 for a US made National and $399 for a Chinese made Epiphone. Our goal is to fill that gap with instruments that are both professional quality, for real working players, and a great deal. We’re pretty damn happy with this guy. Plays great, sounds great and the tropical engraving is just cool. That pickup sounds a lot better than we thought it would too.
One big difference between the cheaper (Chinese) and the better (Korean) versions of these instruments is the attention to detail and the use of the correct woods and construction techniques. This instrument is built with proper original stick and pillar technique, uses correct mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard.
This new shallower depth and 14 fret “players” neck with slim profile are designed for real world live performance.
